La catarata en Cajabamba

Some pictures from my hike yesterday. Cajabamba has seven waterfalls...so one down and six more to go. This is only a 15 minute bus ride from my town and another hour or so walk. Everything was as green and pretty as it looked. (Another nerd reference: While hiking, I pretended that I was in "Jurassic Park." He he. The music just kept rolling in my head... But minus the dinosaurs and other scary spitting demon looking animals, of course.)

The only bad part about yesterday: Aerobics has done away with all the traction on my shoes. While crossing the river yesterday, I slipped on a rock and fell into the water! :(

  1. My husband and I are in the beginning stages of thinking of volunteering for the Peace Corps. I talked to a friend who used to be in, and she said it is a good idea to select a few places we would like to go, and put them down on the resume. Peru is a place of interest for us. Are there other married couples volunteering in Peru? Just want to know your take on the support the volunteers have there in Peru. Thanks, Joanna

  2. Lovely photos of waterfalls!!

Here's some family gossip - Wendy's Josh was laid off recently. No doubt your sister is going to be a little bit nervous about it all. That got me to thinking - what do you think about living here and living there: on one hand, we live a very luxurious lifestyle here, but on that same token, we're all obligated to a lot of bills. Do you think that it's more or less stressful to have all of these luxuries than to live more simply without so many comforts?

    What do you think?

  3. Joanna: Peru is an amazing place and, even though there were no guarantees, I did want to be placed in a Spanish speaking country. Married couples are not uncommon and, in fact, there is a married couple serving together in my group. If you want to e-mail me your e-mail address, I'd be happy to pass it onto them. I'm sure they would love to answer any questions that you may have.

  4. Amy: WTF!? Are you sure that Josh wants his layoff to be on my blog? Um...anyways, you might be asking the wrong person about luxuries. It's so cold here without windows in 40 some degree weather that I would give up quite a bit for a heater. But that said, I would prefer a middle of the road society. Peruvians themselves will tell you that they don't see a lot of progress so everything pretty much remains still. However, I've come to realize that you can really live off of 10 pairs of underwear, three pairs pants, a few pairs of shoes, and a few shirts. In comparison, my closet at home with my unworn clothes is ridiculous. (That said, please don't go raiding through my closet though. I still like that stuff.)
